This blog is a conversation among members and friends of Simply Living about our community radio station: WCRS. Here we can imagine and discuss what our station might look like once it is up and running. What will we hear? Who will we hear? How will we further our mission with radio? In this space you will find links to podcasts (audio files) consistent with our mission to simplify our lives, green the earth and heal toward wholeness. Let us know what you like. Also respond to and share ideas about the station. Let us live, listen to, speak and sing the change we seek for the world.

Give Five for Community Radio

What do you want to hear on Columbus Community Radio? Consider the guiding principles of Simply Living:
  • Simplifying our lives
  • Greening the earth
  • Healing toward wholeness
How would these themes be reflected in radio content that was global in perspective and local in relevance? Let us know by suggesting five topics you would like to hear addressed and five individuals you would like to hear interviewed or reported on your community radio station. Use the comments area of this blog post to offer your suggestions.

I'd like to hear:

1) Meera Parthasarathy speak about her work with Columbus Green Building Forum

2) Mayor Coleman talk about his Get Green Columbus initiative

3) Someone from each of the mayor's "Green Team" subcommittees speak about their respective activities (that's five right there!)

4) Someone from MidOhioBio talk about the biofuel coop they are organizing in Central Ohio

5) Dr. Fiksel of the Center for Resilience at OSU speak about his work

All excellent suggestions! I know we have connections with CGBF and the Mayor;s office. I imagine we have them with the others too. What about the projects/people you listed do you find most interesting? Are you involved with any?

Listen to Amy Maurer's "Lunch time gardener" show 11:10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays on WCRX-LP, 102.1 FM Local Power Radio.

WCRX-LP shares the 102.1 FM clock with Green Radio WCRS.

Amy Maurer has a global eco-point of view and applies her environmental knowledge to the very local flora of Bexley neighborhoods.

She reports on the progress of the seasons as witnessed in this little city.

Her guests have reported on "birding" "edible Bexley, edible plants that are frequenty overlooked" "iris growing" "composting" "community gardening" "farmer's markets" and challenges like the "emerald ash borer."

She also has a Paw Paw Report where she describes the growth of a Paw Paw tree in her yard, the formation of the fruit and its harvest.

If you want to hear your suggested guests on Amy Maurer's show, please let the WCRX-LP Editorial Collective know of your interest and we can follow through with Amy Maurer and make the arrangements for broadcast.

WCRX-LP, 102.1 FM, Local Power Radio is an affiliate of Pacifica Foundation of Berkeley California and broadcasts editorial content of The Old Farmer's Almanac by permission of the publisher.
